    Description

The relation between human land use activities and the environmental change can be described as a coupled human-environment systems with socio-economic as well as ecological and biophysical components as sub-systems. These “land systems” form the terrestrial part of the earth system and therefore are critical components of the global biogeochemical cycles and energy fluxes. The session aims to present diverse modelling approaches, on regional to global scale levels that integrate components to simulate both aspects of the human and the environment sub-systems as well as the linkages between them. From particular interest are methods to model land use decision making and its effect on environmental services as well as environmental feedback to the human sub-system. Moreover, methodological questions of coupling between biophysical and socio-economic models will play a prominent role.
