The core of the teaching activity is concentrated in the bachelor's and master's degrees of the Barcelona School of Informatics, but the Department also teaches at various UPC schools: the Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering, the School of Mathematics and Statistics, the Vilanova i la Geltrú School of Engineering, the Terrassa School of Industrial, Aeronautical and Audiovisual Engineering and the Barcelona East School of Engineering. The Department coodinates two PhD programmes: Computing and Artificial Intelligence.

The Department's research is organised in research groups that cover different disciplines in the Computer Science domain. It is at the main conferences in the field and participates intensively in public and industrial projects and in the creation of spin-off companies.
