Interval-related paper chosen as Outstanding at AI conference

During the recent 15th US National Conference on Artificial Intelligence AAAI'98 (which was held together with the 10th Conference on Innovative Approaches to Artificial Intelligence IAAI'98), a paper "Acceleration Methods for Numeric Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSP)" by Yahia Lebba and Olivier Lhomme (Ecoles de Mines, Nantes, France) was honored as one of the three Outstanding Papers.

This paper introduces a new way of accelerating the convergence of numerical CSP algorithms, which enables the authors to achieve, for some problems, several orders of magnitude acceleration while keeping the resulting intervals guaranteed (i.e., without losing any solutions).
