AIMS & SCOPE
============
The growth in electronic health records as the method of choice for acquisition and storage of medical data will in the near future enable
real-time use of interactive decision tools by clinicians, integral in the database interface used in routine clinical care.
However, optimal use of this immense resource requires further advances in methodology for data analysis, alongside necessary steps to standardise
clinical protocols, developments in medical ontologies and the assimilation of multiple data modalities into single, interpretable, frameworks
for clinical action.

Add to this the exponential growth in molecular data, with its requirement for scalability, visualisation of high dimensional data, robustness
of predictions with p>>n, and there is clearly a need for data exploration and validation across disciplinary boundaries that include computational
intelligence, bioinformatics, medical informatics, pharmaceutical modelling involving safety and efficacy, even extending to text mining.

Beyond hospital and laboratory data, there are two additional streams of the information revolution leading to personalised care, in personal
health monitoring, which has a heavy engineering component, and the analysis of public health data, which feeds into lifestyle interventions and
government policy is a way that can be equally as cost effective as clinical interventions.

Taken together, these four complementary streams articulate the 4P agenda for healthcare provision being predictive, preventive, personalised and
participatory.

This special session will focus on methodologies and case studies of exploratory data analysis in health, to explore the crossover of methods across
these four broad application streams. Papers are particularly encouraged which deal with the following topics within the remit of the overall conference:

 * CI/probabilistic/statistical and other methods
 * Data understanding, rule extraction, logical models
 * Mining of very large datasets, scalability
 * Analysis of structured data
 * Text, graph and web mining
 * Visual data mining
 * Molecular biology
 * Translational research

Deadline for submission of papers: 31st October 2010
Notification to authors: 15th December 2010
